We are excited to announce that we are now looking to recruit volunteer Bereavement Supporters, for adults and children and young people, to join our dedicated Specialist Team.

These are the qualities and skills we are looking for:
CYP support specialist - role specifications
Personal specification
Essential requirements:
- Experience working with children in a professional or voluntary capacity, for example, in a school, nursery, church or youth club. This could include listening to children reading in a primary school for a minimum of one academic year.
• Experience using counselling/listening skills in paid or unpaid employment.
• Awareness of the impact of personal experience of death and bereavement.
• Ability to manage sensitively and with compassion the needs of a young client within the boundaries of the service offered.
• Ability to maintain client and volunteer confidentiality.
• Good basic IT skills including email.
• Ability to maintain a professional approach at all times with fellow volunteers, young clients, parents and school staff.
• Confidence in own judgement and initiative but able to seek guidance as appropriate from supervision, Designated Safeguarding Leads and the Service Management team.
• Ability to be self-reflective, autonomous and practice self-care.
• Awareness of and commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion and the implications for supporting bereaved clients
Able to commit to:
• Attend the full experiential training programme and induction (dates above),
including completing the written requirements of the course.
• Complete Level 2 CYP Safeguarding course whilst training with space2grieve and undergo Enhanced DBS Check.
• Travel throughout Richmond borough to see children at the venue most appropriate for their needs (including schools).
• Volunteer within school hours and/or between 4pm and 6pm seeing a minimum of 2 child clients a week for 45-50 minutes each.
• Attend monthly 2-hour group supervision sessions.
Desirable:
- Qualification in working therapeutically with children and/or adults.
- Resident of Richmond borough.
- Experience of supporting bereaved children.
- Holder of a current and transferrable Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate
- Holder of transferrable safeguarding certificate.

- Confident of own judgement and initiative but able to seek guidance as appropriate from supervision and the service management team.
- Ability to be self-reflective, autonomous and to practice self-care
- To be responsible for maintaining and developing one’s own professional development.
- Awareness and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and the implications for supporting bereaved clients.
- Ability to maintain client and volunteer confidentiality.
- Be competent with basic IT systems.
- Commitment to the space2grieve service model and values – as explained on the website.
- To be available for a minimum of 2 hours at the same time each week with monthly addition of 2 hours for supervision.
- Commit to attending the full training programme and induction and additional CPD provided.
Desirable:
- Additional qualifications in counselling/health/social care professional training
- A resident of Richmond Borough
- Experience of working with bereavement
- Holder of a current and transferrable Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate
